New To NetSuite | Custom Field Types: Integer Number vs. Decimal Number
In NetSuite, Integer Number fields store whole numbers only, making them ideal for counts, rankings, or quantities where decimals aren’t needed—like item counts or priority levels.
In contrast, Decimal Number fields allow fractional values and are used when precision matters, such as for weights, rates, or time in hours. While both are numeric and usable in formulas or scripts, choosing the right type ensures accurate data.
Example Use Cases for Integer Number Fields:
- Inventory Quantity
- Ranking or Priority Level
- Employee Headcount
Example Use Cases for Decimal Number Fields:
- Dimensions/Measurements
- Scoring/Rating systems
- Averages
