New To NetSuite | Custom Field Types: Hyperlink vs. Inline HTML

edited Aug 22, 2025 11:07PM in SuiteBuilder & SuiteBundler

Both the Hyperlink and Inline HTML field types are used to display read-only content on forms, but they serve different purposes and offer different levels of flexibility.

The Hyperlink field type is specifically designed to display a single clickable link on a record. It stores a URL and shows it as a clickable hyperlink, optionally with custom link text. This field is best used when you need a clean, user-friendly way to direct users to a specific internal or external resource such as a webpage, document, or related record.

The Inline HTML field type, on the other hand, is much more versatile. It allows for full HTML content, including multiple links, styled text, images, and layout elements. It’s ideal when you want to present rich content directly on the form, such as announcements, instructions, banners, or dynamic messaging.
