NetSuite Admin Tip | Unable to Search for Vendors or Customers While Creating a Transaction
While creating a transaction in NetSuite—like a Vendor Bill, Customer Invoice, or Sales Order, have you ever found that you can’t search for a Vendor or Customer just by typing in the field?
Instead of seeing the usual dropdown suggestions as you type, nothing appears, and you’re forced to click “List” or manually scroll through records.
Why Does This Happen?
This issue is most often caused by a user preference setting called “Maximum Entries in Dropdowns.” This setting determines how many records NetSuite loads in dropdown fields.
When your total number of vendors or customers in the system is less than 200, NetSuite attempts to load all of them at once—which disables the type-ahead search functionality and turns the field into a static list. This is why you're unable to search by typing.
