NSC | Resolve Error: "Invalid Your_custom_field_id Reference Key XXXXX" for Custom Fields With List/

in SuiteCloud / Customization

Use Case: 
Users may encounter the following error when saving a transaction record: 

Invalid your_custom_field_id Reference Key XXXXX 

This can occur when a custom field references a value from a List/Record type field such as Contacts, Items, Companies, or similar records, and the referenced record is either inactive or no longer exists. 

In this example, the referenced list/record is a Contact record. 

How It Works: 

  1. Take note of the Reference Key displayed in the error message. 
  2. Navigate to Lists > Relationships > Contacts 
  3. Show Inactives: Check the box  
  4. Use Ctrl + F to search for the Reference Key.
