NSC | Adding a Variance Column to a Customized Income Statement
Scenario
A user wants to customize an Income Statement to compare two report columns and display the variance between them. This is commonly needed when comparing actuals against budget, current period against prior period, or one subsidiary, department, class, or location column against another.
Solution
To add a variance column to a customized Income Statement:
- Open the Income Statement report.
- Click Customize.
- In the Edit Layout section, click Add Formula Field.
- Rename the formula column based on the desired label, such as:
- Variance
- Variance %
- Actual vs Budget Variance
- Select the applicable Formula Type:
- For variance amount, select Difference (x-y).
- For variance percentage, select
