NSC | Why a Field defaults incorrectly on Transactions
Scenario
A transaction field automatically populates with an unexpected value during record creation. Examples may include:
- The wrong location defaulting on Sales Orders.
- An incorrect department or class appearing automatically.
- A shipping method defaulting unexpectedly.
- Employee, subsidiary, or currency fields populating with values users did not select.
This issue is common in environments with multiple customizations, forms, workflows, or sourcing rules affecting transaction behavior.
Solution
Review the different areas in NetSuite that can control default field values on transactions.
Common sources of incorrect defaults include:
- Company or Accounting Preferences
- Review setup preferences that define transaction defaults globally.
- Some transaction values inherit automatically from accounting or operational settings.
