Include additional standard field in Global Search

I know I can make custom fields searchable by global search, but is it possible to make additional standard fields searchable by a global search?

Specifically a number of users have asked to have the "partner code" field (Field ID: partnercode) show up in global search results. For us this is a numerical code and not the same as the Partner ID.
