Inner/Master Carton Shipping Issues

I am at the implementation stage.  I've been told NetSuite can not tally the total number of shipping cartons from the custom transaction field we added  to the Sales Order, Picking List, Packing List custom forms etc, without NetSuite writing a specific script for us.  Therefore my warehouse would have to manually count the number of shipping cartons and enter that in a field for Ozlink to pick up.  Does that sound right?  Ozlink/UPS needs to know the number of cartons being shipped per shipment and their weights/dimensions.
