List of items and how many times sold in a given timeframe even if none?

I need to generate a list to display all items that were created in the previous quarter regardless of whether they actually had sales.  Meaning if item ABC had 3 sales I would report 3 but if item XYZ did not sell it would be in the search with either blanks or zero for the quantity sold.

I did try to use this post:

but it references an inventory search and I do not have that as an option when creating a new search.  I tried the formula on a normal item search but kept coming up with invalid formula in the results.
