Item Tracker - show items even if no activity

I keep running in to this problem, when I want to report on items of a certain class and total revenue by item for a specified date range, items will not appear in the results if there has been no activity in the date range. I am using an item search, not a transaction search. How can I prevent items with no transactions from being filtered out?
