What is the relationship between a SalesOrder a Wave and pick tasks?

Pick tasks lines carry a reference to the sales order they are created from.

But on deleting the pick task there still seems to exist a link between the salesorder item record and the wave.

Can I find some info on the way these entities interrelate?
