AE: Analytics dataset not seeing expected joins

I have an analytics dataset with the root record as Project.

I also have a custom record "Asset" and a custom field on the Project that joins to this. This works fine.

I then also have a custom CRM field "Case Asset" that links to the "Asset" record. The "Case Asset" field is set to "Record is Parent".

I was expecting to see Project -> Asset -> "Field [Case Asset] on [Case]" as a join field but it's not there.

I can see other similar fields but not this one. For example Project -> Asset -> Field [Case Asset] on [Other Custom Record] is ok.
