Splitting a Location into two

I have a customer who is using locations at the moment without inventory and has created a head office, and sundry sales location that are currently shared between to subsidiaries, they want to start using Inventory now but i cannot enable this feature as locations can only be attached to a single subsidiary,

They are okay with creating new locations for the smaller subsidiary but how can I go about shifting the historic transactions as there are thousands of them across multiple transaction types
