Can you use "Distinct" in formula to find only unique values?

Has anyone else seen this function? I used in it a transaction search: Sum(distinct{amount}). It removes any duplicate numbers with the same amount. Not quite what I want to do...What I am looking for is a way to use "Distinct" in a case formula, something like "Case when (distinct{line}) then {amount} end" This did not work but what I am trying to do is remove duplicate lines in a grouped search caused by a sub-record (custom Record) being called. Any ideas
