How to update the Entity ID of the Customer Record?

I want to remove auto numbers for customers and suppliers. I know that by doing this, previous records will still have an ID prefixed to the customers name. Is there a way to update this via mass update after I have disabled auto numbers? If not, can someone assist in giving me an example via Suitescript on how to update this?
