Per this Idea: Reminder system for helpful/correct answers, we have deployed the reminder system and are testing it out. For test purposes, it has been enabled here, in the Community Feedback (No Product Questions) space only.  We are also testing this out in our behind-the-scenes moderator space. 

 

The system should send reminder emails after seven days whenever a question is posted, the question has replies, and the user has not come back to mark anything Helpful/Correct. You should start to see these reminders for future posts; it is not retroactive to past posts.  Here is the text of the email reminder:

Hi all,

 

We have another rollout of minor fixes coming out on Friday. There will be no downtime associated with this rollout. The key bugs that are being fixed are:

 

  1. When you are @ mentioned in a post, your inbox sometimes freezes.  Yes, we finally tracked down the cause here and have a fix! Yay!
  2. Helpful is still visible to users other than the original poster in certain places. This fix means we can increase the points for Helpful back to 50. Yay again!
  3. Only the top of the Add Reply button works. Yeah, that was a weird one. Fixed!
  4. Mobile devices can't access Overview pages and login button is missing. Note that this fix has actually broken the mega-nav in mobile. You will need to use the space trees to navigate. If you run into any spaces where the space tree is missing or you need navigation links added, please let us know. We are still working on incremental fixes to the mobile experience.
  5. Information has been added when user uploads an avatar.  In response to this popular Idea:Provide some information when uploading an avatar or profile photo.

    6.Reputation entries in profile no longer give links to the related content, or link to wrong posts. Late-breaking news: this has also been fixed!

 

 

Known issues remaining:

 

  • Ranking (on reputation page) is broken [This has been randomly fixing itself, let's see what happens after the release.]
  • To get Helpful star and other visual cues, you need to reload the thread
  • Issues with mobile functionality and navigation still remain. Mega-nav not working in mobile. We are working on incremental fixes.
  • Editing "Your View" fades the left menu but clicking other menu option leaves it faded.
  • Multiple Profile hovering can show the pop-up display with incorrect details.
  • High Contrast Colour Scheme is barely readable. [The team is working on this one.]
  • If a discussion is tagged, and the tag ends with a slash /, users may not be able to reply to the thread.
  • "You haven't earned any badges here" message displaying on reputation page even when user has earned badges in a place.
  • There are sporadic issues with the images in image carousels (especially when logged out)
  • Horizontal scrollbar being shown unnecessarily.
  • Zooming the browser with the search box open doesn't zoom correct, nor keep the search box fully on the screen (IE and Chrome reported so far)
  • Editor crashing when copy/pasting text
  • In News >> Connection streams End of New Updates  appears above "Load More Items" when there are still more new updates .
  • Actions keeps on loading .Unable to edit posts.
  • Weird mouseover behavior as described here: Weird behavior when mouse over on OP's name.
  • Recently updated thread in "Places" is missing.Community New Look'n Feel: most recent updated thread missing from the "Places" form

The following updates will be rolling out Friday night -- there is no planned downtime associated with this patching.

 

1. First and most importantly, we are rolling out a fix for the inbox issue!

2. In response to this Idea current thread page too hard to identify, we will be adding an underline to the current page number as well as making it a different color. Here is a screenshot of what this looks like in testing:

3. Employees will no longer have to select a default community; the global default will be automatically selected for them. They will still have the option to change this setting as per usual.

We are rolling out some minor fixes this evening; unfortunately, one issue we have not yet been able to resolve is the inbox issue. It is tied to one of our plugins and the fix is more complex than we had hoped. I will get a timeframe for that fix as soon as I can and keep you posted. Note there is no downtime expected for tonight's patching.

 

Fixes rolling out:

  • Search icon will be made more visible (gray instead of white)
  • Edit Profile page link to edit your Display Name will go directly to edit mode of profile
  • Some incremental fixes are rolling out for mobile, especially in MOSC
  • Hyperlinks will be made more prominent (see Make links look like links.)
  • OUGC header will now take users to OUGC homepage rather than Welcome page
  • "Null" appearing in "add a skill" dialogue will be fixed
  • "Report Abuse" will now have a "Wrong Place" option so you can report content in the wrong place (in the future we will change this to "Report Content" so it is a bit more accurate)
  • Round avatars in Internet Explorer will be fixed

 

Known issues remaining:

  • Inbox does not always load messages when they are clicked on

  • Helpful can still be marked in some instances by people other than the OP, and points for Helpful are still at 5 until this is resolved

You may have seen a recent post from Chitrasai1-Oracle with an update on the 9/9 fixes and the remaining known issues. If not, you can find it here: Fixed issues on 09/09.

 

The most serious major issue remaining is the Inbox not displaying messages when they are clicked on.  You can sometimes fix this by doing a hard refresh of the page or by clearing your browser cache. We have observed that this issue happens in particular when you are @ mentioned in a thread. We are working on a fix for this at high priority and will keep you posted on when we can release that fix.

I wanted to provide an update for you on how the fixes are going for some of the issues you're seeing. As you may have seen in Sarah's last blog post, the main issue is a Javascript conflict that is affecting many types of functionality, including the search widget, the ability to edit pages (for space and group admins), the ability to invite users to groups, and other weird issues.  Sometimes changing browsers or (in groups) changing the group theme can provide a workaround, but it is certainly frustrating. We apologize for the frustration!

 

The good news is, a fix for this is currently being tested and we plan to roll it out next Friday.  We will also be fixing the incorrect counter on the moderation queue (which only affects mods and admins but believe me is annoying) and improving the Helpful mechanism and removing the ability to mark Helpful on non-question content. Once we do more complete testing on how gamification is impacted, I'll let you know if the points for Helpful will be adjusted at the same time.

 

More info to come over the next week, but I wanted to give everyone the latest in the meantime.

Last Friday, the following fixes were rolled out:

  • Me in 3 is now fixed
  • The Helpful button was removed from Inbox
  • Mobile functionality was improved (but not completely fixed)
  • Vote history for Ideas is now hidden
  • Group icon in "Your Places" is now the new purple circle
  • Speaker profile fields are now displaying (they were hidden)

 

Also fixed:

  • Content view does not work in Idea spaces or on profiles

  • Issues with mobile functionality and navigation still remain. We are working on incremental fixes.
  • Round avatars showing for some users -- this may be an Internet Explorer issue. This is a low priority at this time. [ BluShadow - confirmed ok in Chrome from same computer, agree IE issue ]
  • Editing "Your View" fades the left menu but clicking other menu option leaves it faded
  • Reputation entries in profile no longer give links to the related content, or link to wrong posts
  • "Post" button does not become re-enabled if you try to make a second post within 30 seconds
  • Multiple Profile hovering can show the pop-up display with incorrect details
  • High Contrast Colour Scheme is barely readable
  • "End of New Updates" appears above "Load More Items" when there are still more new updates
  • Social group administrators -- default theme that differs from group theme creates issues, especially if Java theme is default -- the workaround is to change your default theme to OTN/global
  • Space admins -- widget editing issues under investigation
  • "Latest Reply" link not always going to latest reply
  • "Recently Completed By" on missions, not always showing
  • Duplicate thread listing on content Overview page when "more" clicked
  • Actions are not working

  • If a discussion is tagged, and the tag ends with a slash /, users may not be able to reply to the thread.

  • "You haven't earned any badges here" message displaying on reputation page even when user has earned badges in a place.

  • There are sporadic issues with the images in image carousels (especially when logged out)
  • Count for some Ideas doesn't make sense: Unusual (to me) behaviour in ideas space
  • Horizontal scrollbar being shown unnecessarily
  • Moderator queue is showing +2
  • Zooming the browser with the search box open doesn't zoom correct, nor keep the search box fully on the screen (IE and Chrome reported so far)
  • The search button in the top right side of idea space is not working. (Also not searching when pressing enter.)
  • Social group invites are not working
  • Padding/Margin disappearing from left side during some actions (such as replying)
  • Font sizes are inconsistent in "Content" view of spaces
  • Thread with replies, showing no replies until replied to it
  • Inbox content not refreshing with new content periodically
  • Editor crashing when copy/pasting text
  • Threaded view becomes unreadable after a large number of replies

 

Please report if this is still happening:

  • Space Leaderboards showing Global Leaderboard instead -- please report any instances of this so we can fix it
  • Connection Stream number of updates disappeared
  • "Mark All Read" dialog causing message counter issues (seems to be fixed)

We will be doing a community upgrade on Friday, July 29. The community will be in a read-only state for approximately 7.5 hours, from 21:00 Friday - 04:30 Saturday PT (05:00 - 12:30 Saturday UTC).  You will not see the data from the two hours immediately prior to the upgrade window, as our read-only snapshot will be taken at 19:00 Friday Pacific time. Once the read-only state is over, all data will once again be available.

Our community upgrade is currently scheduled to start next Friday, July 29, and be completed on Saturday, July 30. I've posted a document that covers the major New features and changes in Oracle Community, including bug fixes and any remaining known issues, with some screenshots of what to expect.


I'll post a system announcement about downtime as we get closer to the date -- this is a significant upgrade so likely will be some hours of downtime and read-only mode.

The community will be read-only on Friday, May 6th, and will be in a read-only state for approximately six hours, from 21:00 Friday - 03:00 Saturday PST (05:00 - 10:00 Saturday UTC).  You should not see any changes on the community as a result of this outage, but let us know if you see any issues, bugs, or problems.
