Alerts and Notifications via Email, Worklist etc., are common in PeopleSoft Systems. Automating Alerts for some custom actions/criteria has always been a need of Organizations. Some fabricate bolt on Processes, some achieve it via SQR’s and some even use Reporting Tools to accomplish this. PeopleSoft Enterprise Suite has delivered an Events and Notifications Framework that can be configured and automated for such highly desired functionality. The outputs can be in form of an Email Notifications, Worklist & Push Notifications and even XML Notifications to other systems.

 

There are three ways to use notifications:

  • Use pre-defined notifications
  • Define new notifications for a PeopleSoft process (Requires technical help of IT team)
  • Use PeopleSoft Query


We took up the following problem statement and setup notifications with the help of PS Query: Employees in an Organization who have unapplied Cash Advance (CA) pending in their queues are to be notified. They have to apply such CAs in their Expense Report to clear of the CA balance. A PS Query was created to pickup such transactions and using the Events and Notifications Framework Emails and Worklist reminders were sent. This utility can be setup at the following navigation:

  • Main Menu >> Enterprise Components >> Events & Notifications >> Notifications Framework >> Notifications Registry
  • Main Menu >> Enterprise Components >> Events & Notifications >> Alerts >> Alert Definition


The process to run the Alerts can be found at the following navigation:

  • Main Menu >> Enterprise Components >> Events & Notifications >> Alerts >> Run Alert
  • It is a Run Control page where the Query Options are given for Alert Generation. The process EOEN_ALERT picks up the inputs and performs the Alert action.

 

Information on how this use case was setup can be found in the screenshot document attached. Some of the additional features in this framework are -

  • The ability to override the setup at System and Business Unit levels.
  • Pre-Processing Exit: A preprocessing user exit tells the system to run another process before it determines who to notify.
  • Customizable Actions: Use this option if you have written your own application class for a customized action that can be taken when the alert condition is met.

Change Assistant gives off error

 

Issue: While upgrading PeopleTools 8.53.16 to 8.54 I receive the below error in change assistant:

 

Step failed at running Long to LOB Script 1 to 8.

As of PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.54, new database data types are supported for PeopleTools system databases

running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later and Oracle 9i or later. If you are using a PeopleSoft application database (for example, HCM, FSCM, CRM, or ELM), you should not run this conversion as part of the PeopleTools only upgrade. Do not run this task unnecessarily.

What is a PeopleTools system database?

 

Um, what is a PeopleTools system database?

There is the option to create a custom application that uses PeopleTools.  Those sites would license PeopleTools and utilize Tools to build their custom app.  This is called a "PeopleTools system" database.  This requires a special license.  It is a bit unusual, but there are customer sites that license PeopleTools for this purpose.

 

 

System vs Demo database

 

I confuse this with System vs Demo database?

Yes, that's a good point.  When installing a PeopleSoft environment, you choose between System and Demo.

Demo includes sample data that can be used to navigate around the environment and readily learn more about how things work.

System does not include sample data -- this would be appropriate when installing a new environment that would be taken into production.

The PeopleTools system database referred to above means the unique situation where customers have chosen to license PeopleTools and build their own custom application.

Understanding Database Creation   (which says)

When performing a PeopleSoft installation, you will create these types of PeopleSoft databases:

• System (also called SYS) databases, which contain the PeopleSoft PeopleTools and product-specific metadata

required for development of a production database.

• Demo (DMO) databases, which are populated with sample data for study, demonstration, or training purposes.

PeopleSoft Enterprise customers are probably familiar with the larger conferences for our products and industries.  Names like OHUG, Alliance, Collaborate and the big daddy of them all, Open World are bandied about without the need for an explanation of what they are.  If you are looking for a conference with a slightly smaller footprint and yet a detail oriented perspective, you may want to take a look at the Quest Reconnect conference next year.

 

Reconnect continues to grow, though it is a small conference with around 500 or so attendees.   This year there were 160 education sessions geared towards what we usually refer to as deep dives.  These are presentations that take basic functionality and look more closely at what’s available and how it all works.  Presentations and attendees tend towards generalists and technical end professionals and no single PeopleSoft product family is over represented at the conference

 

As in years past, Oracle Support participated by manning a booth on the exhibitors’ floor for the express purpose of connecting with our customers and answering questions or concerns about your support experience.  We also provided education sessions on topics for which we recognize a demand based on our own support experince  The presentations provided by Oracle Support were:

If you follow the link to the recently posted Campus Solutions CS 9 Bundle #38 - Master Note for Questions or Problems with Patchset 21040898 (Doc ID 2003231.1) you will find a great deal of reference material and a long list of “no problems found” entries.  While we hope that we never find any problems to list in this document, you and I both know that the application of maintenance is rarely problem free.  You can alleviate a lot of headaches stemming from the application of this recently posted bundle by reviewing this master note.

 

The intention of a Master Note for a Campus Solutions Bundle is to provide you with information regarding problems or issues with the application of the bundle, including any functional issues that have been reported and believed to be the result of applying this bundle.  In the Master Note, you will find sections for:

Some of the most frequently asked questions on the PeopleTools Component, Technology Certifications:

 

Q:  I see that PT 8.54 is certified with Microsoft Sql Server 2012.

     My site wishes to use Microsoft Sql Server 2012R2, but I do not see it in the Certifications section of MyOracle Support (MOS). 

A:  See the document Tech Update - Oracle Simplifies Third Party Maintenance Certifications with PeopleSoft (Doc ID 1079495.1).

     We have tested PT8.54 with Msft Sql Server 2012 and are ok if you use that release, and apply R2 on top of 2012.

  

Q:  Is Adobe Reader verson tested for certification with the Oracle PeopleSoft product?

A:  No.  This product is not tested by Oracle/PeopleSoft with our products.

     This doesn't mean that you cannot use it with PeopleSoft, it's just that we do not certify or support it.

     If something goes wrong with Adobe and PeopleSoft, then we ask you to discuss it with Adobe.

 

Q:  Is Windows 7 32-bit supported with PeopleTools 8.54?

A:  Windows 7 32-bit is supported with PeopleTools 8.54 for use as a browser only.

      You can see this in MOS Certifications by navigating:

      Certification Search, Product = PeopleSoft PeopleTools, Release = 8.54.  (Search.)

      In the result row Operating System, Windows 32-bit 7, click on "1 version".  You'll see that it is supported for use as Browser only.

 

Q:  Is Internet Explorer 8 supported for use with PT 8.54?

A:  No.  You can see this in MOS Certifications by navigating:

     Certification Search, Product = PeopleSoft PeopleTools, Release = 8.54.  (Search).

     In the result row Desktop Applications, Browsers, and Clients, see Microsoft Internet Explorer, click on 3 releases.

     Releases 9, 10, and 11 are supported with PeopleTools 8.54.

 

Q:  Now that Microsoft will be releasing a new browser called Microsoft Edge, just wondering if this will

      be supported with PeopleTools 8.54 - or other releases?  There is no entry now for Microsoft Edge in the MOS Certifications tab.

      Or, will this be certified for use with PeopleTools 8.55?

A:  We have no information for you at this time.  One idea - keep an eye on the Certifications section of MOS, of course, and also

     the Tech Update - Main Page (Doc ID 764222.1).

 

     The Tech Updates are described as:

    ... a communication avenue for PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools to distribute information regarding the

    supported products we use. These announcements may contain news about new certifications, end of support or

    third party retirement notices as well as any other platform related information we need to distribute.

[AM] How to Add Bonus Depreciation Retroactively for an Asset

 

Create asset with in service date / accounting date between 1.1.2012 si 31.12.2012  without applying bonus depreciation. Now I want to apply retroactively bonus of %50 which will delete the old depreciation from the depreciation table and create a new one : This is done launching process AMSEC101 with Run mode: Prepare For depreciation. It will perform a reset:

  • Delete depreciation table
  • Add Bonus percent 50, and bonus sw at 9 on book table
  • Calc type changed to L on book table
  • Update Open trans depreciation to P pending
  • -Update if needed, Begin depreciation date … etc.

 

Launch depreciation for asset to recreate depreciation according to bonus. You may also like to play a recording of the TTQ above.
