Using PUM Update Images and PUM Upgrade Source Images in Upgrades

How do the 2 different types of PUM images fit into the upgrade scenarios?  There are PUM Update Images (also called PI) and the PUM Upgrade Source Images.  How do they differ and what are they used for, in PeopleSoft upgrades?

Update Images

A PUM Update Image (also called PI) is used as source to define and apply required-for-upgrade patches. These patches are applied to the Upgrade Source environment.

Do not use an Update Image as an Upgrade Source environment.  Do not apply anything more than the required-for-upgrade patches from the PI to your Upgrade Source environment

Where to find the Update Images:

PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) Home Page (Doc ID 1641843.2) tab PeopleSoft Update Image Home Pages / choose your application.

Upgrade Source Images

A PUM Upgrade Source Image can be used as your Upgrade Source environment if supported for your upgrade and for your environment.

On the document PeopleSoft Upgrade Source Images Home Page (Doc ID 1552580.1), see the chart in section PeopleSoft 9.2 Upgrade Source Images.  Find the row for the Upgrade Path you are interested in, and at far left, see the Comments column. Depending on the upgrade row selected, you may see comments such as

"This upgrade source image is for ENGLISH-ONLY customers"

or

"This upgrade source image is for ENGLISH-ONLY customers using the Oracle platform"

which may disallow use of the Upgrade Source for the upgrade your site might be planning.

If no Upgrade Source image appears to be supported for the upgrade your site is considering, your alternative is to install the Upgrade Source Demo environment in the classic manner, using the virtual CDs posted to the

Oracle Support Delivery Cloud (e-delivery).  These are downloaded, unzipped, and installed according to the PeopleTools Install Guides and Application Install Guides.

Some virtual CDs are posted to the Oracle Support Delivery Cloud site with the additional image already included.  A current example would be PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain Management 9.2 Full Install (through Update Image 11).  This means that Update Image 11 is already included in those FSCM 9.2 Virtual CDs.

Getting complicated

An Upgrade Source Image may still need required-for-upgrade patches to be applied (to it), before the upgrade can begin. How to know if this is the case?

Let's say you are getting ready to use a FSCM 9.2 Upgrade Source image #2 for your upgrade

FSCM 9.1 to 9.2 (through Update Image 11).

But then,  FSCM 9.2 PI 12 is released.

Can you use PI 12 as the Upgrade Source environment?  No, it is a PI, not an Upgrade Source image.  But it will contain required-for-upgrade patches that need to be applied to the FSCM 9.2 Upgrade Source image #2.  Simply use the new PI image to define and apply required-for-upgrade patches to the Upgrade Source Image.

Can you use PI 12 to 'get current' and enhance your upgrade to be through Update Image 12? No, because the upgrade template and delivered data conversion programs are for FSCM 9.1 to 9.2 (through Update Image 11).

As part of its Applications Unlimited Program, Oracle continues to invest in PeopleSoft applications on an ongoing basis, including frequent delivery of significant new functionality on its latest 9.2 release. Customers can selectively adopt new features and enhancements using the PeopleSoft Update Manager.

Below are the latest enhancements delivered in FSCM Image 11 through 13 for the SCM and SRM products.

  • Strategic Sourcing - Bidder Attachments

Streamlines the process of downloading attachments by allowing those who analyze sourcing events to download all attachments, or attachments for selected bidders, for an event directly from the analysis pages themselves.

  • eProcurement – SpeedCharts

The SpeedCharts functionality has been enhanced to provide an option on the Requisition Settings page and Edit Lines/Shipping/Accounting for Selected Lines page to select pre-defined SpeedCharts on requisitions to increase data entry efficiency.

  • Order Management – Price Manager WorkCenter Dashboard

A centralized work area that streamlines tasks for power users such as daily pricing functions and exception alerts, monthly activities, and reporting, resulting in improved efficiency, productivity, and effectiveness.Image White Paper.bmp

To read more about these enhancements and others for Financial products go to Document 1495347.1 (PeopleSoft Financials and Supply Chain Mgt. (FSCM) Update Image Overview 9.2 through Update Image 13) and view the White Paper attached called: PeopleSoft_FSCM_UpdateImageOverview_Image_11_through_13_July2015.pdf. The information included in this document is intended to help you understand the business benefits of the additional capabilities Oracle developed in the delivered update images and to help you plan your information technology (IT) projects and investments.

Also refer to Document 1923479.2 (PeopleSoft FSCM 9.2: Update Image Documentation) for supplemental documentation, set up instructions, and feature implementation and information for the new feature and enhancements.

Important! If you are implementing new features from FSCM 9.2.010 or higher update images and your environment is on PeopleTools 8.54, Oracle recommends that you are on PeopleTools 8.54.05 or higher patch level. Some features in FSCM 9.2.010 are dependent on enhancements first delivered in PeopleTools 8.54.05. If you are not on PeopleTools 8.54.05 some of the feature functionality may not work.

Did you know that PeopleSoft publishes functional and technical TOI (Transfers of Information) regarding new 9.2 features (current through PUM 9+).

These videos are 20-30 minutes and provide a deeper dive on the functionality. These videos are produced by the Oracle PeopleSoft Strategy & Development team.

The TOI videos were originally used for internal sales training but these are now posted for customers to access.

If you are upgrading to 9.2 or thinking about, check out the video’s.

Note: You need to have an Oracle login/password to access these videos.

License codes.bmp

Recently,  many incoming service requests have been on the topic of License Codes.

A variety of activities require finding and using the correct PeopleSoft license code:

--Installing a new environment

--Installing a new Source environment when preparing for an upgrade

--Adding a new product

--Using Cobol

--Applying a minor tools patch

What are license codes

License codes allow you to install the PeopleSoft media, when prompted by the Installer.

Where are they found

1) at https://licensecodes.oracle.com/ent_keys_by_prod.html

or alternately,

2) on the Support Delivery Cloud, by product, included in the Supplemental Installation Guides.  These are  available in both the PeopleTools and Applications media packs.

License codes are used for any environment you may be installing:  Demo, Testing, Quality Assurance, Development, Production, or any other name you would use.    They are used to license software - not hardware.

Choose the correct license code

It is important to select and use each license code where appropriate.

They are provided by database platform, by product, for

    1)  PeopleTools codeline

    2)  Application codeline

    3)  Translations (all languages not English)

The license codes are listed with dashes between the alphanumeric strings. The dashes are present solely to make them easier to read, or to cut-and-paste.

In an English-only PeopleSoft environment, the PeopleTools are installed first (use the PeopleTools license code) then the Application is installed (using the Application license code).

In a multi-language (ML)  environment, the additional step would be to use the Translations license code to install the ML media.  If the environment is being installed in a de-coupled scenario,  where PeopleTools is installed to PsHome and the Applications are installed to a different directory referred to as Ps_App_Home, the translations media is installed to the Ps_App_Home.

Frequently encountered problems

Include:  Using the Application license code to install the PeopleTools media, or vice versa

Using a very old license code when adding a new product

Either situation will result in unwanted results!

Example:  If using a  Tools license code to install from the Application virtual disk, the process will run too quickly and not unload any codeline.

Cobol license codes

Cobol license codes are not included in the general license codes; nor are they given out by Global Support.

They can be obtained from the license codes team, whose email  address is

<licensecodes_ww@oracle.com> .

For more information, see document E-COB: Where/How to get COBOL License Codes? (Doc ID 1416366.1), or the

White Paper and FAQ for COBOL in PeopleSoft (Doc ID 835487.1).

Adding new products

For directions on how to add a new product to an existing PeopleSoft environment, refer to the PeopleTools 8.5n Installation Guide for <your rdbms platform>.

In the PT 8.54 Installation Guides, there is Chapter 17: Adding New Product Modules.

During this process, you utilize a new license code and install the new product from the PeopleSoft Application media to a file server.  The new license code allows you to load the batch components for the new module.

Initially, all installation options will be selected and you deselect any programs you don't wish to install or have installed already.

A data mover script to update the PSOPTIONS table with the new license code will be generated.     Simply updating the PSOPTIONS with a new license code does accomplish all the tasks needed to add the new product.

PeopleTools Service Operation Tester

Mohit Jain [FMS EX Team]

Service Operations and similar IB related objects used for integration need to be tested carefully before deployment as they are real time interfaces for data communication. Creating service operations and their stable deployment is one such big task that is achieved via several rounds of testing for configuration and message triggering.

The Service Operation Tester utility enables you test service operations and invoke the following service operation types using the utility:

  • Asynchronous One-Way.
  • Asynchronous Request/Response.
  • Asynchronous-to-Synchronous.
  • Synchronous.

You can use the utility to populate messages contained within a service operation.

We can simulate an inbound message and test the subscription of that message using the Service Operation Tester. So instead of integrating two environments to test a message and its setup, you can use the Service Operation Tester to test the integration.

We performed a simple test for a service operation to test this utility. For steps please refer the attached document. I've also attached a sample XML which I used for testing this utility for COUNTRY_SYNC service operation.

This utility can be setup at the following navigation:
• PeopleTools > Integration Broker > Service Utilities > Service Operation Tester.

For more detailed information please read this PeopleBooks Chapter: Understanding the Service Operation Tester Utility

Similarly, PeopleTools have various other utilities for testing IB related objects. Handler Tester, Schema Tester, Transformation Test etc. are some of the examples. Please post your comments on this EX Community Thread if you are need more information on any of these utilities.

PeopleTools Introspection and Deployment Utility

Mohit Jain [FMS EX Team]

  • Service Operations not configured properly?
  • Remote Node Objects not setup?
  • Routing doesn’t exist?

And many more such scenarios where it is a time taking task to verify the configuration on your local system and this becomes more compound when dealing with Integration Network which involves a remote PeopleSoft Node. PeopleTools has delivered a very handy and easy to use Introspection and Deployment Utility which can be used for checking basic IB configuration on your PeopleSoft systems.

This utility has a step by step select procedure and is very easy to use. The entire basic configuration can be checked and verified at a single place.

Using this you can verify whether:

  • Service operation is active
  • Routing exists
  • Handler exists
  • Service operation permissions exist
  • Alias names match
  • Sending and receiving nodes match
  • No multiple target aliases exist (Synchronous service operations only)

We performed a test on how to use this functionality. For details, refer the attached screenshot document.

This utility can be found at the following navigation:

  • PeopleTools > Integration Broker > Integration Network WorkCenter >  Administration >  Introspection and Deployment or at
  • PeopleTools > Integration Broker > Integration Network > Introspection and Deployment

For more detailed information please read this PeopleBooks Chapter: Introspecting and Deploying Network Integrations

Simple Post Utility - Integrating with Third Party Systems

Yash Watarkar [FMS EX Team]

The Simple Post utility enables you to post XML messages to PeopleSoft Systems from third-party systems using shell scripts or a Java API. The utility wraps the incoming messages in the PeopleSoft XML wrapper format and posts them to the HTTP listening connector. This then creates a Integration Broker ( IB ) message for the relevant Service Operation.

The utility helps you when you have one system (HCM/FSCM) using a Third Party software but want the information to be synchronized to a PeopleSoft system.

For ex. if you are managing you HR Data in a third party system but you are using PeopleSoft Financials and want the data to be synchronized, then you can write a java program which can convert you HR Data to PeopleSoft readable XML messages and use this utility to post the XML data to the PeopleSoft system.

The utility is very helpful as you can create your own Java Programs based on the requirement or you can create a batch file which can be called to load the data as needed.

Pre-requisites to use this utility (basic IB setup):

  • Gateway is active
  • Service operation/queue is active
  • Routing exists
  • Handler exists
  • Sending and receiving nodes match

For more detailed information please read this PeopleBooks Chapter: Understanding the Simple Post Utility

We performed a test on how to use this functionality. For details, refer the attached screenshot document. Also attached is the sample XML to be used. The Java program template or sample command line script are specified in the PeopleBooks link mentioned above.

Asset Management Purchasing and Payables Integration

Raul Cocias

PeopleSoft Purchasing sends receipts to Asset Management as either capitalized or non-capitalized assets. If non-capitalized assets are created from PeopleSoft Purchasing, these assets can be capitalized when the voucher information is received from Payables. Asset Management automatically capitalizes assets created from Payables as long as the associated asset profile is enabled for capitalization.

PeopleSoft In-Memory Financial Close Analyzer

FCA PPT 01.png

PeopleSoft introduces In-Memory Financial Close Analyzer, delivered in FSCM 9.2.013 image in July 2015, a product that allows you to use the current production multi-currency and year end closing rules to model and compare multiple alternate closing scenarios. Select the most favorable scenario(s) to deploy in production. The impact of complex multi-currency and year end closing rules can be easily determined as the business need arises. Model complex scenarios and run multiple PeopleSoft processes, using your reporting tools and the Configurable Analysis Framework (CAF) to analyze the results at various intermediate checkpoints.

You can create multiple models of the full close with visibility into effects of business reorganizations, material activity, and simulate period end exchange rates that can impact the financial close position. The office of the CFO can simulate the financial close cycle in advance of the close, in order to make valuable and effective decisions on a timely basis.

PeopleSoft In-Memory Financial Close Analyzer is a robust solution that allows you to simulate period-end financial flow leading to a real-time view of your financial position with provisional statements. The process provides material activity projections all the way to period close.

  • You copy production rules and can modify them for allocations, multi-currency and period close to model various assumptions. This creates multiple scenarios from which to run iterations of the posting, allocation, multi-currency, and year-end close processes.
  • You then view scenario results in real-time to determine what your financial position would be if you were to close your books today. Results can be reviewed using financial reports that are familiar to you such as the trial balance and nVision reports.
  • If not satisfied with the results, you can modify processing rules for allocations, multi-currency, and closing and reprocess a scenario as many times as necessary until you are satisfied with your results. When this occurs, you can deploy the processing rule changes to your production system.

Some Campus Solutions customers are experiencing an issue with CS pages not rendering correctly.  This has been happening after their PeopleTools has been upgraded to v8.54.

This issue is caused by customers using the default style sheet that comes with PT 8.54, which is Tangerine.  This style sheet does not work for CS.  CS Customers should use delivered style sheet PSSTYLEDEF, and style sheet SSS_STYLESHEET for Self-Service.
