We have seen a few forum posts that ask the same question in recent times:

Customer has an approval request for Purchase Requisition in the BPM Worklist still available, although the requisition was already approved. When the customer tries to open the approval request an error is displayed: Error occurred while displaying History tree table. Error in task {0}. Please correct the error

How To Resolve:

You need to work with Cloud Ops team and find the approval instance id corresponding to the affected requisition for which approver received these two notifications. You should see two instances (one in Completed state and another in Running state). You need work with Cloud OPs team to kill the instance which is in running state - this most likely will be the older one.
