CPMs are not getting deleted/removed

I've a bunch of CPMs deployed. I'm now required to remove each one of them. But when I click on the object event handler and try to remove them, I see them still listed with a red cross icon beside their name (screenshot attached)

What does this icon mean? Does that mean the removal process is complete but it would take some time for changes to take effect? What would I need to have them completely removed from the system?
