Has anyone else encountered odd behaviour when searching using the reference implementation and known test data?

We have about 30 separate discussions with varying numbers of comments.  Some have been marked as moderator approved best answer and some as author approved, some as both.  Some are rated, some not.  We now have a pretty decent range of test data that we expect to be able to search against.  However for the life of us, when we search we cannot get it to find any discussions.  Seems to find answers ok, but when searching for titles or content of discussions, that are even appearing on the home page under recent discussions, nothing appears!
