Community Custom Fields

I am using customer portal version 18 a, is it possible to add a custom field to the community pages? On the social/ask page we would like to capture the type of question it is, in service cloud we would do this by setting a custom field with a default value and hide it from the user. Is something like this possible in the community pages?
