CheckBox Background and Borders can be Modified?

I use checkbox in the workspace to indicate yes or no answers. I also used it for selecting an options to the choices displayed. However, I noticed that my workspace look not so very nice because checkbox has a background color and has borders. See the attached picture.

Is there a way we can remove the background color (gray color) and the border? Please advise.
