Can only insert in plain text and losing URL links etc

Hi all,

Any suggestions on forcing a Workflow rule to insert standard text in RTF? I haven't found a way and if there isn't one I'd like to escalate this for development as it's crazy to have the option to format Standard Text and then not use it in a workflow.
