Alternative for not being able to change status type?

I have 2 statuses that are currently set as waiting instead of unresolved. We need to change this for the agedatabase to not close them automatically after the set amount of time.

How can we work around this? I read in the documentation that status types cannot be changed. And we have too many tickets old tickets to be changed manually t a new one.
