Migrating from knowledge foundation to knowledge advanced

My organization currently uses knowledge foundation (internally-facing through the console only) and we are considering a move to knowledge advanced. Has anyone had experience migrating content from foundations to advanced? Is it fairly seamless, or more of a manual process?
