How to create a new child record from a linking report

Hello,

I have a report that is set up with incidents as the primary table with links to a custom object as a child (propertyInfo).  The propertyInfo object has a child called nearbyItems.  When I open a linking report to show the nearby items it shows the nearby items filtered properly to the propertyinfo record.  I want to be able to let the user click the "New" button in the ribbon from the linking report to create a new nearby item record for the parent propertyInfo record.  However, the parent's ID is not populated into the new neabyItem record, even though
