Can the seeded HNS Alerts be modified to ensure the notifications also appear as Worklist Notifications

Can the seeded HNS Alert provided with the product be modified so that the notifications are also sent as 'Worklist Notifications' so that they appear under Bell Notifications & Things to Finish for the concerned users when they login.

There is an option in the Alert Template to Manage Recipients and add Worklist as a Communication Method. 
However using Expression  '${emps.UserName}' does not seem to be sending worklist notifications.

Is there a documentation/guidance on what Expressions can be used for the HNS Alerts ?
