When the Customer Portal Framework is being updgraded where is the documentatin?

Hello,

Where is the documentation for steps needed to implement a new version of the customer portal framework, specific to the changes in the framework?  For example going to v3.8 deprecates several widgets - how are we to know which widgets are replacing the deprecated widgets?  When implementing the framework a warning comes up that says the widgets are deprecated, but nothing is said about what to do instead of using the deprecated widget.
