issue with html text when updating a text/area field

Hi, we have created a customized text/area field on the incident called clz_note. When sending text into this field via a soap integration (I.CustomFields.c.clz_note (in Connect Object Explorer entity format)) it shows the text with some html tags, and does not show the actual character, in this case Swedish. Result ex.

Is there anyway to find out which datatype this field has in the db?

Anyone have any idea of how to resolve this? I have looked through the community and the help with out any luck.
