Virtual Tables data changing

Refreshing the data in a virtual table does not bleed through to the report until workspace save

I'm hoping that I'm missing something in the calls here, but we have a working POC of a virtual table giving data to a report based on an API search to an external endpoint. It works fine on the first click of the search button, with the report popping with the returned values from our external data source. However, when we perform a follow up search, the report remains the same. Clicking save on the workspace will redraw the report with the new data, but this is a less than optimal user experience. Is there some function we're missing that
