Best practice for Shared Connections URL Change in Smart View?

Summary:

We have upgraded our subscription from Standard to Enterprise and will need to update the Shared Connections URL in a lot of Smart View queries in saved Excel workbooks. What's the best practice to limit the impact on the users?

We have explored a couple of options:

1. Using Modify Connection in Panel -> Document Contents (with a bot to automate this for all our files) but the functionality does not seem to work (the new connection does not get saved when we save the Excel file)
2. The Manage URL Mappings function in Private Connections but are not sure how applicable it is nor how it works, as we cannot find any documentation.
