Need help on understanding the Live Chat functionality

When a customer initiates a chat, I would like to understand the technical aspects of this use case. Though the functionality is very clear but I would like to know what exactly happens in the backend. where does the request stored, followed by queue assignment, chat acceptance, closure, etc.
