Notifications for Custom Objects

Hi,

I would like to know if there is any way we can send toast notifications to users when there is an update in a custom object. Currently the toast notifications are enabled by default to show up messages related to the Incident assignments and updates. But can this be extended to any of the custom object or is there any other possibility to send notifications to the user that there has been an update to the record they are related to.
