When a CPM error happends - revert the Disposition of the incident back and don't save data to DB

All, 

We are planning to implement a feature to stop the execution of saving the incident when we encounter any critical error in our CPM execution and revert the Disposition of the incident back to “Under Review”. The CPM is triggered via incident rule when the incident is Approved from Under Review.

Is there an easy way to stop all DB updates/transactions from CPM and change back the disposition of incident?  

Any input (like sample code) would be really appreciated.
