Reproducing Workspace Buttons in Add-In

I'm creating an add-in for the chat workspace which will ideally imitate the main tab of the chat workspace (shown in picture) with extra functionality (namely translation). Since the additions involve changing what is displayed in the transcript, i have created a new tab. visually i have managed to mostly imitate the engagement tab, and i am able to grab/modify/display the posted messages, post messages etc. however, i am having trouble figuring out how to replicate the functionality of the "Search Knowledgebase" button and "Standard Text" button (i would like them to behave exactly as they do in the engagement tab, except
