Incident/Contact Workspace Data Validation Implementaion

I am wanting to add some data validation to the Incident and Contact Workspaces to ensure the Contacts First and Last Name have the first letter capitalized, the Contact phone number only contains digits, etc.  Would it better to do this in a workspace addin or a event addin or some other addin?  Just looking to see if anyone has done this before and what is the best approach?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
