Way to force an email confirmation in order to register

We use a campaign to generate a form that allows our customers to self-register. Currently the working process creates the contact record, and an incident. But we do not allow the incident to be closed because we need to verify the contact is valid.

Is there a way for the contact to get an email, which forces them to acknowledge that email to complete the registration process?

Many organizations are doing that now to at least validate that the email address is valid. If this can be done, can you please point me in the direction of the doc?
