Workspace Rules - Set a field to the value of a menu on the workspace

In the workspace rules, I can see how to set the value of a database field to equal the value of an input control on the workspace as long as it's a textbox.  But it doesn't appear to allow you to do the same if the input control is a menu item.  Am I missing something here? 

The problem I'm trying to solve is to have a menu that I've added to the workspace as a control set the value of a text field that is a database field.  I don't want to have to write 60 workspace rules - one for each item in the menu - and set the value of the menu selection to a text box control and then set that value to a database field.  I want to write one rule that says when the menu changes, set the value of a database text field to match what is selected in  the
