Red CX Icon changes on toolbar and forces install

We have experienced a number off instances where a user will log into his pc and the RNT icon has changed from red to a white one. See attached. When the white one is clicked, it starts an install of RNT. A logout or reboot can cause the red CX to reappear. Is anyone aware of this issue and how to resolve it?
