Custom Field Maximum Size: How to work with/around

Hi All,

I know that custom fields only hold a maximum of 32K (or 64K if you're really lucky ) and that the next step in the process is to use custom objects with fields defined on the object.  These do have some downsides of not being able to be called in business rules amongst others.

My query is, we've hit out maximum - and when I say hit, I mean absolutely hammered it... we are 25K over the maximum. Which leads to a few questions:

• How on earth did we get so massively over before hitting any issues?  Surely even if we went over by 1 byte... we should get errors!
