Custom Object ID and Visibility

Attached is an image of my "Recent Items" in OSC.  The item at the top is actually a custom object.  I have two or three questions related to this image.

1) I've noticed that it displays the custom object's ID here (much like an incident shows a reference number).  The ID of the custom object is simply a sequential integer.  It has zero intelligence to it.  Is there a way to create a separate field that combines a text prefix with this ID value (ex. ABC-2, ABC-3, ABC-4, etc.)?

2) Is there a way to select a different field for what is displayed in areas like the Recent Items?  (ID is completely non-descript)
