Can we default sub inventory based on a certain Item Category, Organization and Transaction Type?

Summary:

I’m looking to set a default value for the source subinventory based on specific criteria. For example, if we are performing an Account Alias Issue (Transaction Type) for items under the Laptops (Item Category) within the NYC (Inventory Organization), I’d like the system to default the source subinventory to “NY-Desktop.”

I’ve come across discussions indicating that it’s possible to default subinventory values based on item, transaction type, and organization. So, can this defaulting logic be extended to work at the item category level instead of the item level?

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
