Oracle Database 12c: Rest of the New Features for 11gR2 DBA (1 Hour)

Session Abstract:

Oracle Database 12c comes with large number of features - from as small as a default value of parameter to core database architecture with Multitenant. This session will show the 11g DBAs and Developers how they can quickly start using few of the 12c features and understand some behavior changes. Session will also cover the features introduced in 12.1.0.2. Session will focus on the changes and features you can expect when you upgrade your 11g database to 12c.  This paper discusses the features those may not be on the top list, but are helpful in everyday database administration and management. Discuss the behavior and setup changes compared to Oracle11g.

Session Title:

Data Pump: Tips, Techniques and Tricks (1 Hour)

Session Abstract:

Data pump was introduced in Oracle Database 10g, and has evolved over the versions with various features and performance improvements to migrate data and objects. The legacy export (exp) / import (imp) utility is still maintained in all versions of database including 12c for backward compatibility, and to migrate legacy data to newer versions of database. In this session the speaker shows you how to extend data pump for your various data and object migration needs outside of copying a table or schema. You will learn to export public and private database link and synonyms, various object filtering and row filtering techniques, improving performance of data pump operations, migrate data without using any space for dump file, changing storage properties during export and import, and methods to verify the contents of export dump file.

Outline:

In addition to the content mentioned in the abstract, the session will go in to details with example to show how to export and import with various INCLUDE and EXCLUDE options. Will also cover the improvements like NOLOGGING import and export views as tables introduced in 12c. The topics include:

-        Major difference between legacy export and data pump tools

-        Estimating dump file space requirement

-        Finding valid EXCLUDE and INCLUDE values

-        Saving and restoring database links during a clone

-        Copying public objects from one database to another

-        Excluding large tables during a nightly backup

-        Using subqueries in EXCLUDE and INCLUDE filter conditions

-        Export subset of data

-        Data Masking using data pump

-        Changing storage properties during import

-        Merging partitions during import as well as splitting partitioned table into multiple tables

-        Consolidating tables and indexes on tablespaces reducing the number of tablespaces to manage

Session Title:

Database Caching

Session Abstract:

Oracle has introduced a new feature called full database caching (Different from In-memory option), this can be used to cache the entire database in memory.

Caching the entire database provides significant performance benefits, especially for workloads that were previously limited by I/O throughput or response time. This improves the performance of full table scans by forcing all tables to be cached.

Session Title:

Oracle Data Security Introduction

Session Abstract:

Databases make very attractive targets as they have all the data neatly arranged in columns and rows, properly structured and linked with relevant information.

Hackers may try to enter from network, operating system, storage, databases, applications, storage, backups, etc. if you can sniff the wire, copy the database files from the operating system, exploit someone already in the database, or the application, you can get away with all the data. Passwords can now be obtained by the hackers as well, and you have to make sure that those privileges are not getting abused. The scope of the problem is thus slightly larger than typically what can be addressed by just encryption.

Session Title:

Oracle Big Data - Deep Drive

Session Abstract:

Data has become big and the industry is traversing towards a lot of changes to handle huge volume of data. As data grows each and every day we need a mechanism to handle the data in an efficient way. Hadoop ecosystem uses HDFS as its file system to store the data. Even though the data resides in HDFS filesystem, loading and transferring the data in and out of Hadoop to RDBMS’s like Oracle has become a challenge.  Oracle has introduced connectors for big data which help to load, query and analyze the data. Oracle Loader for Hadoop (OLH) and Oracle SQL Connector for HDFS provide high speed high speed loading techniques from Hadoop to Oracle Database.  The connectors for Hadoop are designed in such a way to deliver best results and provide maximum performance.  This session will give you an overview of how we integrate dataflow between a Hadoop Configured OLAP environment and an Oracle based OLTP environment. We will go through the working mechanism of the big data connectors and its key features. Demo showcases on how to use these connectors in real time.
