Session Title:

Experience of being a Cloud DBA

Session Abstract:

Cloud has become new normal. Cloud Computing has changed the IT landscape and how we think and work and DBA is also no exception. The session talks about what learning and unlearning one has do to be a Cloud DBA from traditional on premise DBA. It talks about how one has to look for various features and options in cloud in order to match the on premise workloads to ensure the same performance levels. It also discusses how to utilize some of the cloud advantages in backup & archival, scalability, high availability and ease of provisioning. Case studies and best practices discussion of couple of database customers who have been migrated from on premise to cloud.

As Cloud being the new normal, DBA's will know how it is different from on premise management of database against cloud.

Build your public cloud strategy with Oracle IaaS and Oracle PaaS

Session Abstract:

Cloud computing has become increasingly significant due to its scalability, low cost and virtually instant availability. However, widespread use of the cloud may not be prudent for all workloads, and developing a roadmap/strategy to the cloud is not a simple task for most organizations.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offers a set of core infrastructure capabilities, such as elastic compute and storage, which allows you to deploy and manage any customer workload in the cloud in combination with world’s best Oracle PaaS offerings to maximize the investment and improve overall performance of workloads.

With recent announcement of Oracle IaaS offerings, it makes it easier for organizations to build their public cloud strategy in combination with Oracle PaaS and IaaS. . The session discusses the methodology and approach   for migrating on premise workloads (Oracle and Non Oracle) to Oracle IaaS and PaaS with a roadmap built on the following key steps:

  1. 1. Classify your applications 2. Assess your application requirements 3. Identify target application(s) and platform 4. Migrate applications to cloud

Session Title:

Oracle Data Security Introduction

Session Abstract:

Databases make very attractive targets as they have all the data neatly arranged in columns and rows, properly structured and linked with relevant information.

Hackers may try to enter from network, operating system, storage, databases, applications, storage, backups, etc. if you can sniff the wire, copy the database files from the operating system, exploit someone already in the database, or the application, you can get away with all the data. Passwords can now be obtained by the hackers as well, and you have to make sure that those privileges are not getting abused. The scope of the problem is thus slightly larger than typically what can be addressed by just encryption.
