You do need to use the 9i exp.exe file, but remember, this will only export objects that are known to 9i. So, if you are using anything that was introduced in 10 or 11, then the 9i exp will not export it. This all means that your 9i "backup" may not be complete.
Dean, thank you very much for your quick reply.
The objects are identical. I have not reached imp yet. The export gives me an error. Using 9i exp.exe which I copied from 9i directory to 11g BIN gives 'no listener' error. But the same syntax with original 11g exp.exe runs successfully. Is there anything you can think of that I can get the export to work?
Thank you again!
Does the tnsnames.ora in 9i and 11g have to have the same service name for 9i exp.exe to run on 11g?
You will need to connect to the 11g database using the 9i client and run the exp from the 9i client home. Copying the exp executable from the 9i home to the 11g home is not supported and will not work.
Thank you for helping me moving forward! After configured the connection in 9i client to 11g, the exp.exe did start and connect to 11g, but it hangs with a window error:
EXP.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Can you suggest how to troubleshoot this error? This is new to me. I appreciate your help!
I do not have any experience with Windows, so will not be able to help much. Can you post the complete exp command and exp log file ? How long after export starts do you get this message ?
Pl see if MOS Doc 1154365.1 (How to trace and produce tkprof output for a traditional export (exp)/import (imp) performance issue on Windows platform) can help
