Hi all,
I have installed Oracle 11g R2, on LAPTOP1(Windows 7 Professional). I have created a database manually. I am able to login to the database and do all my work.
Now i am trying to connect to the same database from LAPTOP2(Windows 7 professional). in LAPTOP2 i have installed the Oracle Client. LAPTOP1 and LAPTOP2 are in network. in LAPTOP1, i have added exception to the port 1521 in the firewall. from LAPTOP2 i am able to ping LAPTOP1. but i am not able to TNSPING to the Database, which is in LAPTOP1.

Please kindly help me solve this problem.

Thank you.

    How are we to know what specific error message you are seeing or if your fingers are broken?

    Post the full and complete error message after making sure the TNSNAMES.ORA on the second laptop has an entry for the database.

    disable a firewall for a few minutes and retry, if you'll success - then config firewall.

    Hi Nikolay Ivankin,

    The listener in server(LAPTOP1) is already started. when i am LAPTOP1 i am able to login to database successfully.
    Did you mean the Listener in client(LAPTOP2)?

    Thank you.

    Show connection string for LAPTOP1, results of:
    ipconfig /all
    lsnrctl status
    Did you mean the Listener in client(LAPTOP2)?
    no

    Note that this forum is about Instant Client - your issue seem to be more of a database connectivity problem, not related or not specific to Instant Client.

    Sadly that does not prove that listener is started.

    Please try to show more of what you do and see i.e. copy-paste of command session when you login both successfully and not.

    Did you mean the Listener in client(LAPTOP2)?
    Why do you have a listener in the client ?

    No remote connectivity possible with localhost.

    It needs to listen on a routable address.

    Best options is likely to remove listener.ora and bounce the listener, giving it default workable parameters.

    Hi Orafad,

    I have added to the listener.ora as the bolded part.

    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    *(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 5.23.143.174)(PORT = 1521))*
    )
    )

    I stopped and started the Listener by using the following commands in Command prompt.
    LSNRCTL STOP
    LSNRCTL START
    It is working now. Thank you.

    Thank you all for your time.
