Did you start the installer with "Run as administrator"? (needed on Windows 7, even for administrators)
If running OUI under elevated admin's privileges does not help: What paths did you choose for the installation? Are proper permissions setup on Oracle Base and Home folders?
Thanks for your help. I did run 'Run as administrator' ... when I debug this with VS2010 seems to be looking for a file with .pif?...
the directorys did not exist...

makes no difference.:-(... where can I get the latest Oracle 11.2 client install?
i got this from https://edelivery.oracle.com/EPD/Download/get_form?egroup_aru_number=12395484
Having the same problem. Spent almost an hour on it. Turns out I have a shortcut to my downloads folder on my desktop (named Downloads.lnk). If I remove that shortcut the installer works.
Ultimately i used process monitor, found where it started writing out the error log file (hs_err_pid1234.log). I see c:\Users\UserName\Downloads.lnk as one of the last file I/O's before the JVM crashes.
If any others are encountering this error I would suggest first trying to remove any shortcuts to shell folders from your desktop.
Hope that helps.
