    LISTENER_VESS23 =

    Hi Everyone,

As I have installed Oracle 11g and I tried to start work with sqlplus by entering

    sqlplus sys@orcl then it shows

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

and at the same time while installing I got an error that Listener configuration failed..by saying Listener is not up..

    Thanks in advance
ORA-12154 has zero to do with the listener. The request never got far enough to involve the listener.

Two listeners (LISTENER and LISTENER2) are very rarely ever needed. And since you have both of them configured to use the same port, all bets are off. Without testing, I'd guess that's the cause of your error trying to start one of the two listeners.

Now you've made things worse. "No message file for product" means you have have incorrectly specified ORACLE_HOME. Since this is Windows, I'd recommend you NOT try to specify oracle environment variables, as that will just complicate the fact that Oracle will try to get them from the registry instead. And I'd trust what oracle itself put in the registry more than I'd trust what you put in the environment.

Now the listener will not listen for anything coming from another machine. IP address 127.0.0.1 is NONroutable. And I've never seen the "_+" with an iP address .. Is that some sort of IPv6 construct? Or is that some sort of attempt at text formatting? Please go to the FAQ and read up on use of the code tags and quit trying to format your text, as that simply introduces the possibility/probability that what you show is is not exactly what you got.

What do you mean you can't reconfigure your listener? which listener? At last count, you'd created 3 different ones. A listener does not have to be configured for a database. If it is running on the default port of 1521, and the instance hasn't been told any differently, it (the instance) will register itself with the listener. Please (*please*) read all of my tnS related posts at edstevensdba.wordpress.com.

What "it" shows that error? Starting one of your many listeners? Connecting to a database? Error messages taken out of context are not much more help than no error message at all.

above occurs when OS/Networking mis-configuration exists
problem & solution are external to Oracle.

Can result when ORACLE_SID does not match oradmin Service name.
Can result when hostname does not match what is used by listener

    Two things.

First, decide which thread you are going to use and close the other.

Second, get rid of all listeners except the one with the default name of LISTENER.

After you have done both of the above, we can start to work the problem without having to carry on multiple conversations and without trying to hit a moving target.
