Hi,

I am using Oracle 11g R1 on my Windows XP OS. When i try to login, I am getting the following error:

ERROR:
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress

Oracle and Listener services are all started.

When i try the following,
SQL>connect sys/manager as sysdba
SQL>shutdown immediate
SQL>startup

I am getting the following errors:

ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 2- see DBWR trace file
ORA-01110: data file 2: 'C:\.....\ORADATA\ORCL\SYSAUX01.DBF'

Please help me.

    Hi,

Given the error message, please verify that the data file mentioned in the message exists, and is writable for the oracle-user
ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 2- see DBWR trace file
    ORA-01110: data file 2: 'C:\.....\ORADATA\ORCL\SYSAUX01.DBF'
Also, can you post the relevant lines from the alert-log (%ORACLE_BASE%/diag/rdbms/%ORACLE_SID%/%ORACLE_SID%/trace/alert_%ORACLE_SID%.log)

    HtH

Instance can't open sysaux.dbf while trying to open, and remains in mount state. Therefore you obtain ORA-01033 when try to connect under non-sysdba user.
    Post alert.log

That's too bad, I hope your DB is running in archivelog and you have a recent backups.
You have to restore/recover your DB.

The file SYSAUX01.DBF exists. But it is an empty file. It has no content in it.
Then I hope you have a backup, since you need to restore the file.
Since the file is empty, Oracle cannot use it.

ORA-1157 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE OPEN...
The root error is the "ORA-27047: unable to read the header block of file"-error.
Do I need to set any environment variable to mention the path where the SYSAUX01.DBF file resides?
No, these are all set in the control-file. Have you manually moved the data file?

I haven't moved any files manually.

This is the first time I am trying to login. I did not make any backup earlier.

I couldn't understand why I am getting these errors.

How had this DB been created?
If by DBCA - check it's logs. Were there any errors during install?

Yes. The DB is created using DBCA.
But there were no errors during installation.
After installation I was able to login once yesterday.
    I didn't do any changes.
But I am not able to login today.

So there could be a viral activity or HDD bad blocks.
    Recreate DB

I'll check for it and try to recreate the DB.
    Thank You.
